The Health Misinformation Management Project

In response, to the infodemic, Between June and September 2020, Nigeria Health Watch partnered with Meedan and the Nigeria Center for Disease Control and Prevention which culminated in the launch the Misinformation Management project aimed at combating COVID-19 misinformation through risk and community engagement strategy. Leveraging Nigeria Health watch wide reach the project utilised multiple digital formats and multimedia strategies, debunking false information across various social media platforms. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and prevention was instrumental in identifying prevalent misinformations, rumours, and fake news by monitoring rumor logs and utilizing social media search functions.
With social media gaining popularity, leading to the widespread dissemination of misinformation, particularly during disease outbreaks, the project re-strategised its approach by incooperating online social listening as part of its evidence generation model. In 2023 the Project further evolved and adopted a range of strategies that included Evidence gathering, Community Engagement and Information dissemination. The Project utilised various methods to achieve her deliverables.
