Our History
2007
First ever blog “Another Measles Outbreak”” published on the Nigeria Health Watch blog page on the 19th June 2007 on “Blogger” new google platform for blogs, and Nigeria Health Watch has never stopped providing the very best editorial content out of the Nigerian health sector since.
2015
Nigeria Health Watch gets its first funded project, a small grant from with Christian AID to conduct a feasibility study on community health insurance in Nigeria.
2015
The Health Watch Foundation is formally registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
2015
The first Future of Health conference, “Defining the Health Sector of our Dreams in Nigeria” is held in Abuja in June 2015, just prior to the entry of a new government in Nigeria.
2016
The Co-curator of Nigeria Health Watch, Dr Chikwe is appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari to the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control in August 2016 and resigns from the management of Nigeria Health Watch to join the board.
2017
Nigeria Health Watch gets its first of major projects from the United Nations (UN) as UNICEF engages it to conduct advocacy for malnutrition prevention in three states in North West Nigeria.
2021
Launch of the Solutions Journalism Africa Initiative (SJAI) in partnership with the Solutions Journalism Network, highlighting some of the most important innovations and initiatives driving improvements in the Nigerian health sector.

8th Nigeria Health Watch Future of Health Conference themed “The Political Economy of Health: Investing in the Future of Nigeria”.
2023
Convened a Policy Dialogue on Community Accountability in Primary Health Care
In August 2023, Nigeria Health Watch organised a Primary Health Care policy dialogue in Niger State focused on strengthening community accountability mechanisms. The event brought together community members, health workers, and policymakers to discuss improving PHC service delivery and maternal health accountability structures.
2024
Hosted the 10th Future of Health Conference
Nigeria Health Watch organised the 10th edition of the Future of Health Conference in October 2024 in Abuja. The conference theme was “From Evidence to Action: Building Resilience at the Climate-Health Nexus.” It brought together policymakers, researchers, and development partners to discuss how climate change affects health and how Nigeria can build climate-resilient health systems. The event also served as a platform to generate policy discussions and evidence-based solutions for health challenges linked to climate change.
2025
Delivered technical and communications support to the West African Health Organisation for the ECOWAS Lassa Fever International Conference (ELFIC)
Nigeria Health Watch supported the West African Health Organisation in planning and executing the ECOWAS Lassa Fever International Conference (ELFIC).
The organisation provided strategic communications and technical support, helping to shape messaging, stakeholder engagement, media visibility, and knowledge dissemination around Lassa fever preparedness and response in West Africa.
This support helped position ELFIC as a major regional platform for research, policy dialogue, and collaboration on Lassa fever prevention, surveillance, and vaccine development.
